Know the boundary of an answer.
National energy data covers 218 countries and areas; the archived power-plant baseline covers 167 countries. Climate TRACE adds global industrial and waste-disposal sources. All inventories have gaps and may overlap. An empty country is a coverage gap.
Go back to the source.
Original identifiers, units, quality flags, licenses and publication editions travel with each record. Release artifacts are fixed snapshots, not live feeds.
Keep different quantities separate.
Material mass, liquid volume, land area, energy capacity and climate emissions answer different questions. A facility location does not establish a route, operating throughput or buyer.
Make assumptions visible.
Source estimates are labeled. Optional linear interpolation requires two annual observations no more than three years apart. It never fills the original table or extrapolates beyond its evidence.
Primary sources & reuse.
Licenses apply per dataset. Mining derivatives retain CC BY-SA 4.0; there is no blanket license over all upstream data. EIA, JODI, World Bank and UNEP IRP provenance is included in their query responses.
